GeekOut 2012, a homegrown geek festival including comic books, costumes, boardgame, swordfighting and roleplaying took place at the Renaissance hotel today. GeekOut has replaced Fanaticon as Asheville’s premiere geek culture event, and plans on expanding it’s offerings next year.

Moogfest 2011, the electronic music festival, was held in downtown Asheville from Oct 28th-30th 2011. Big crowds, great costumes, famous musicians, partying, hipsters, DJs, archival footage of Bob Moog, hands on time with Moog instruments- all those things were on full display during the weekend. 2011 marked the tenth anniversary of the Lexington Avenue Arts and Fun Festival. Three blocks of downtown Asheville were devoted to a variety of street performers, food and drink vendors, crafts and activities for all ages. Among the performers at the three stages were 23 Skidoo, Unifire Theater, Paper Tiger and Stephanie’s Id.
The annual Bele Chere Festival kicked off Friday, continuing through the weekend. Generally attracting large crowds from all over WNC, Bele Chere features local, regional and national music performers, street musicians, artists and food vendors.
