Ring of Fire

The 2016 Boyd Cycling “Ring of Fire” race training series has begun at Carrier Park in West Asheville.

“This is my first year, second week,” said Paul Jackson, who competed in the “C” race.  “I’ve never actually raced before this year, but I’ve ridden a lot with the racers.  It’s just fun hanging out with these guys.”

Racers compete in four race categories ranging from 20 to 60 laps for cash prizes and primes.  The races take place at the “Mellowdrome” of Carrier Park, a 500-meter track.  In a criterium race, points are awarded to winners of sprint laps which in the Ring of Fire races occur every 5 laps.  The racer with the most points at the end of the race wins.
