Hops for Horses at Highland Brewing Company

On April 23, Hope for Horses, a horse rescue and rehabilitation group, held a fundraiser at Highland Brewing Company called Hops for Horses.

Hope for Horses held the event in order to qualify for a $25,000 grant from the ASPCA. In honor of Help a Horse Day 2016, the ASCPA is giving out $100,000 in grant prizes to equine rescues and sanctuaries across the country.

Kimberly Reynolds, a Hope for Horses board member, said the group hopes to win the grant money in order to keep helping horses across Western North Carolina.

“We’re just trying to spread the word about the plight of horses in Western North Carolina,” Reynolds said. “Highland is a great place to come raise awareness and drum up support.”

In order to collect donations, Hope for Horses held a silent auction, a raffle, and a bake sale. In addition, the Joe Lasher Jr. Band performed in support of the event. A special appearance was made by Joey, a 22 year-old miniature pony rescued by Hope for Horses.
