ZaPow gallery welcomes you

Grant Searcey is an artist based in Georgia who sells art at ZaPow Gallery located in downtown Asheville.

“When I moved to Georgia from Los Angeles, I probably heard once a week that I had to check out Asheville,” Searcey said. “So, I did and I love Asheville.”

He said the owners of the gallery, Lauren Patton and Matthew Johnson, saw his work at Dragon Con in Atlanta and emailed him after the fact saying they would love to have his art in their gallery. He has been selling his art there for 2 years now.

ZaPow Gallery opened on Oct. 1, 2011. ZaPow features Illustration, Narrative, and Pop Culture Art.

“I created this gallery because this is the sort of art I make and there were no galleries showing this type of art,” Patton said. “So I just made my own gallery and then found all of the best illustrators around.”

She said she painted a picture of her dog and then all of her friends asked her to paint pictures of their pets. “Now I paint 3 to 5 pets a month in addition to all the other art I make,” Patton said.

Almost all of Searcey’s paintings were of animals and he explained why.

He said, “they are in harmony with all that is.”

Patton said the gallery is always looking for new artists and anyone can apply to show their art in ZaPow by filling out the application on their website.
