Saw-Whet Saison Release Party

The Highland Brewery hosted a release party for its new seasonal beer, Saw-Whet Saison, on Friday Jan. 29. The brewery partnered with the Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy for its new release.

“We had been desiring to develop a partnership with a local company that would help with outreach,” says Carl Silverstein, the Executive Director of the conservancy. “The partnership with Highland Brewing Company is a real natural fit.”

The release party was there to help bring awareness of the saw-whet owl, a threatened species that’s native to the highland region. The brewery promised to donate one dollar of every pint sold that night to the conservancy who will help protect the saw-whet owls and the area they live. Regular donations were also accepted at the party. The brewery has a history with their charities through their seasonal beers.

“When we go to create a new seasonal beer, we work with our partners, like SAHC, and they help us come up with a name for the beer,” says Grant DaSantos, the Hospitality General Manager of the brewery. “By us naming that beer (Saw-Whet Saison), it helps bring awareness for the saw-whet.”

The Saw-Whet Saison will be available for only a limited time.
