Tom and Gary’s Decentralized Dance Party came to Asheville Tuesday, May 22. According to Tom and Gary’s website, the party consists of hundreds of Party People, carrying boomboxes, and a DJ who wears a backpack, containing an FM radio transmitter. All the boomboxes are tuned into the DJ’s master FM broadcast, resulting in a mobile, synchronized sound system. Row upon row of old boom boxes lined the steps of Pritchard Park, were picked up by revelers and carried through Asheville to City County Plaza, with a stop at Pack Square Fountain. The Dance Party came into Asheville following successful events in Minneapolis, Detroit and Chicago.
